Change is inevitable, unavoidable and it shapes up all. On his forthcoming EP, Urthboy pens his thoughts on this grandiose theme. Contemplating his experiences and mapping his own trajectories: The Turning Circle EP is five songs of reflection.
One of Urthboy’s biggest songs to date, lead single ’Have and Hold’ follows the themes of love and sacrifice - the realisation that when you get what you want there is still work to be done to keep it. Premiering on Good Nights on triple j last night, the song weaves with lyrical finesse, as he finds a way to unravel themes of relationships and politics like only an Urthboy song can.
The ‘Turning Circle’ EP arrives on March 2nd and marks the bookend of his 5th studio album The Past Beats Inside Me Like A Second Heartbeat. Whether it is observing new-wave political ignorance in ‘Flat Earth’, revisiting the feeling of a first love in ‘Crushing Hard’ or recognising the fork in the road up ahead in title track, ‘Turning Circle’, there is no doubt that this EP sees Urthboy at his most musically adventurous, and predicts that his songwriting can only get stronger... whatever direction that may be.
